It might seem to the rest of the world, we have a problem in our
Presidential national election. To me, we are being blessed.
Blessed because we are finally living what our history professors
tried to instill into our brains that "every" vote counts.
For over 40 years, apathy in America has created a serious
decline of registered voters. Or, voters who didn't use their
right to vote because they said "my vote doesn't matter anyway so
why bother?"
Well quite frankly, this statement will never be truthful again.
Hooray and hallelujah!
No matter what your political affiliation, you have to be happy
this happened. Maybe not from the standpoint of who will finally
be President but the fact, each of us has learned something new
about our political process. The more aware we are, the better
the process will work in the future.
Will the outcome of either Gore or Bush matter? Not as much as
the media would have us believe because they are only one part of
the political equation. The other two (Congress which is almost
evenly split and who actually makes the laws) and the (Judicial
who interprets those laws) are still equally as important.
True, the President can upset the judicial part by recommending
Supreme Court justices but with an evenly split Congress, their
choices will come under close scrutiny and may or may not be
approved.
Yes, I would say our forefathers did one heck of a job when they
designed our system of government. It has held up under the
good, the bad and the really ugly (scandals) of Presidents and
hasn't missed a beat. The only thing which could have destroyed
our form of government was apathy and thanks to this election,
this factor is no longer present. So yes, this political
presidential problem is really a blessing.
